Vaisakhi at Westminster 2025: A Celebration of Community Resilience and Sikh Heritage
Westminster, London – April 2025 — The grand State Rooms of the Speaker of the House came alive with colour, music, and heartfelt speeches as the 18th annual Vaisakhi celebration at Westminster took place, marking a significant moment of unity and cultural pride in the UK Parliament.
Organised by the British Sikh Consultative Forum (BSCF), this year’s event was held under the gracious sponsorship of Sonia Kumar MP (Labour Party) and Mike Wood MP (Conservative Party). The event drew a wide array of attendees, including Parliamentarians, faith leaders, community organisations, and members of the public, all gathering to honour the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi and its enduring values.
The event’s central theme – Community Resilience – resonated strongly amid ongoing national and global challenges. In a year marked by recovery and renewal, the celebration highlighted how the Sikh community has continuously contributed to Britain’s social fabric through selfless service and unwavering community spirit.
A Soulful Start
The programme began with a moving performance of Kirtan by children from the Nishkam School, who set a spiritual tone for the evening. Their devotional hymns, sung with youthful sincerity, brought a moment of reflection to the usually formal Parliamentary setting.
Dignitaries and Delegates
Over 100 organisations were represented, and an impressive contingent of nearly 50 Members of Parliament were in attendance — a testament to the cross-party recognition of the Sikh community’s contributions to British society. Prominent party leaders and notable speakers took to the podium throughout the evening, offering messages of solidarity, gratitude, and respect. (Watch the full video to hear from all the speakers.)
Food, Fellowship, and Generosity
In keeping with Sikh traditions of hospitality, guests enjoyed a delicious selection of chilli paneer, samosas, pakoras, and masala chai, generously provided by the Panjab Restaurant of Neal Street, London — a long-time supporter of the Vaisakhi at Westminster celebration and a consistent contributor to charitable causes.
As the evening concluded, attendees were gifted bags filled with sweets, kindly donated by Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall, ensuring everyone left with warm memories and a taste of Sikh generosity.
Looking Forward
The post-event feedback has been positive, with many praising the celebration’s inclusive spirit and organisational excellence. The BSCF expressed its gratitude to its sponsors and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing this annual Parliamentary tradition with the ongoing support of Rt Hon Pat McFadden MP and Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP.
Vaisakhi at Westminster remains not just a cultural celebration, but a powerful symbol of how diverse communities enrich the democratic heart of the UK.
